Miniature Painting 301: Non-Metallic Metals
February 22 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Miniature Painting 301 NMM is an advanced level painting course. “NMM” is short for “Non Metallic Metallics”, which refers to the technique of simulating shine without actually using shiny paint. The paints used are often matte finish, but by utilizing maximum contrast and a few other mind games to trick the eye, the viewer reads the painted miniature as “ooh… shiny”
While it is not required to take Miniature Painting 101 or 201 prior to this course, we encourage students to consider taking 101 and 201 first, especially if they are new to miniature painting or have little experience with the hobby. This course is for 13 years and older only.
In this course, students will build on the blending techniques that are taught in the 101 and 201 courses. Blending is a huge aspect of painting NMM.
The class will cover:
Metal Color Theory and Light Theory – we will discuss real world examples of metal colors and how ambient light affects the sheen on the metal as well as color choices to achieve an effective end result.
Color Blending – Students will use the advanced techniques of color blending and wet blending.
Color usage – the class will cover the basics of colors for steel and golden metals
The course lasts 3 hours. Students are encouraged to ask questions and receive feedback from Aaron, which will sometimes cause the course to run over time.
Students only need to bring brushes, a wet palette and a desire to learn!
You’ll go home with a partially completed figure and good start at painting NMM!
The course costs $15. *
Students under the age of 13 will not be admitted to this class
